Family Business Honours
The J.P. Morgan IFB Family Business Honours
Celebrating Family Business Succcess
This collaborative programme between the IFB and J.P. Morgan was designed to increase awareness of the contribution which family firms make to the economy and social fabric of the UK and Ireland. The programme's research and evaluation process is supervised by London Business School and includes previous winners. The case studies allow family business owners to learn from the experiences of the firms that are honoured. By identifying best practice in family firms we are highlighting role models for the entire business community. To view the J.P. Morgan IFB Family Business Honours website please click here.
FBH 2009 Roll of Honour- Key Success Factors
a. Strategy is adaptive: change is ingrained as a core value. Companies have dumped legacy investments, including the original businesses on which the companies were founded.
b. Spread the risk: all firms have diversified their portfolio of activities, while growing the business. None have reliance on a single product/market sector.
c. Gain leadership in chosen niche: all have strong market positions among their portfolio of assets and aim to be the leading player in their selected niche markets; avoid head to head battles with multinational PLCs.
d. Conservative approach to finance: focus on financial flexibility and retaining independence through low leverage policy.
e. Progressive HR policies underpinned by family values: the hiring & retention of highly motivated staff is supported by strong values that family members articulate and live.
f. Pride in doing business the responsible way: employees and family work in harness creating socially responsible approaches to doing business.
The winners of the 2009 J.P. Morgan IFB Family Business Honours were announced at the Gala Dinner held on 4th June at the IFB's National Forum Conference.
