On behalf of David Ord, Terence Mordaunt and the Institute for Family Business I am delighted to invite you to attend this ‘Meet the Owner’ event that is being generously hosted by The Bristol Port Company. As well as a tour of the site, guests will have the opportunity to hear how this highly regarded family business has evolved, some of the issues with which they have had to contend along the way and the core values which they regard as key to their success. There will be a Q & A session and ample time for networking with other family business owners.

The Bristol Port Company, owned by Terence Mordaunt and David Ord, purchased the Avonmouth and Royal Portbury Docks from Bristol City Council in 1991. Since that date there has been considerable growth and development and the port handles some 12 million tonnes of product, ranging from motorcars, coal, grains, jet fuel and containers. The port directly employs in excess of 500 people with over 7,500 port dependent jobs. Both partners now have sons in the business and the strategy is to keep and develop the enterprise, rather than sell.
