Richard is HM Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk. Educated at Rugby School and Pembroke College, Cambridge, he first worked in the timber and building material supply industry, becoming managing director of Jewson, and then chairman of its parent company Meyer International plc from which he retired in 1993. He is currently chairman of Archant Ltd and Raven Russia plc and a non-executive director of other quoted and unquoted companies. He retired in 2004 from 10 years as chairman of Savills plc, and in 2005 from 14 years as a non-executive director and deputy chairman of Anglian Water Services Limited. The evening will also include a roundtable discussion on some of the issues with which family businesses are confronted during these turbulent times.
