Three companies triumph in J.P. Morgan IFB Family Business Honours

Family firms from the world of beer, milk and wine have won this year’s JP Morgan IFB Family Business Honours.

The winners, Berry Bros & Rudd Limited, Fullers, Smith and Turner Plc and Robert Wiseman Dairies were recognised for their business success, social responsibility and family governance, as well as their performance in innovation and staff retention.

Wine and spirit merchant Berry Bros & Rudd has traded from the same shop for more than 300 years and is now in its eighth generation. It was the first wine company to launch a website with internet order capabilities and has an exceptionally low employee turnover rate (9%).

London’s only remaining traditional family brewer, Fuller’s has brewed beers and run pubs since 1845. The judging panel were impressed by it track record of introducing new products and its company culture, as well as its charity work with a local hospital which has raised £1m.

Robert Wiseman Dairies, established in 1947, supplies 30% of the fresh milk consumed in Britain every day. The keys to its success include staff retention, its £448 investment programme in its dairy and distribution network  and its environmental awareness.
