Professor Randel S. Carlock
Randel is a professor, coach, family therapist, entrepreneur, and former CEO and Chairman of a NASDAQ listed company. Carlock’s passion for teaching and real-world experience as an entrepreneur helped him enter the new field of family business and serve as founding director of two university-based family business research centre, one in the U.S. and one in Europe.
He holds MA, MBA and PhD degrees and has done postgraduate training in family and marriage therapy at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College and psychodynamic counseling at Birkbeck College both in London. He also completed the Art and Practice of Leadership Development at Harvard University’s Kennedy School and Strategic Family Therapy Training at the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto.
He is most proud of his books, written with outstanding colleagues: When Family Businesses are Best with John L. Ward, Family Business on the Couch with Manfred Kets de Vries and Strategic Planning for the Family Business also with John L. Ward. The books have been translated into several languages including Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Mandarin, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish.
His latest book published in 2018, A Family Business on the Moon: 24 activities to plan your family and business future, co-authored with Keng-Fun Loh, represents a completely new style of learning based on family communication driven by shared real-world experiences and two 360 On-line family assessments.
