Rupert Phelps: Partner for Family Office Services at Smith & Williamson
Rupert Phelps is Partner for Family Office Services (FOS) at Smith & Williamson. Before joining Smith & Williamson to lead their FOS offering, Rupert established a FOS business at Savills plc, working with substantial investing families internationally on their commercial real estate investments. Rupert was for 7 years the Director of Family Office Services at BNY Mellon, where he was responsible for the firm’s relationships with FOs and their advisers in the UK, Europe and Middle East region. Formerly he has been a board member of a single FO, Global Head of Private Banking & Wealth Management at Euromoney, with other senior roles at UBS Global Asset Management and Merrill Lynch.
Rupert took a master's degree in Mediaeval History at the University of St. Andrews and is a Liveryman of the Drapers' Company (where he sits on the Investments & Almshouses Committees). He won the Spear's Wealth Management Survey (WMS) award for Outstanding Contribution to Wealth Management in 2008-2009. He is Chairman of the Cure Parkinson’s Trust Gulls’ Eggs Luncheon Committee, sits on the board of the single family office of a European former ruling family and advises Somerville College, Oxford and the University of St. Andrews on their strategy for increasing their endowments and sourcing philanthropic capital.
