IFB Conference 2021: Re-imagining Family Governance
9th November 2021
Dr Claudia Astrachan and Professor Isabel Botero’s presentation at this year’s IFB Conference 2021 focused on family governance, or the mechanisms and structures used to coordinate and align an ownership group. In the presentation, Claudia and Isabel, both family business researchers and practitioners, share some of their preliminary findings from a research project on family governance commissioned by the IFB Research Foundation. They discuss common family governance challenges, such as the tendency to use structural solutions to address emotional issues, or using boilerplate governance policies and mechanisms that poorly fit one’s family values and objectives, which often ends up causing more conflict in the family, rather than preventing it.
