Family Businesses Meet John Glen MP
28th November 2016
The IFB Westminster Forum today hosted Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Chancellor, John Glen MP at a lunch event with family business representatives from across the UK. The group discussed a broad range of business issues, including the recent announcements in the Autumn Statement, corporate governance and culture in business, and the impact of Brexit.
John Glen MP, PPS to the Chancellor, said: "I was delighted to meet members of the Institute for Family Business today, and discuss the challenges and opportunities facing their businesses. Family businesses make important contributions to UK jobs and growth, so it is essential that these kinds of conversations between business owners and policy makers take place. It was inspiring to hear about their eagerness to invest and grow, but also important to understand some of the barriers they face in this."
Tim Wates, IFB Westminster Forum, said: “We were very pleased to meet John and introduce him to such a diverse range of family businesses. Family firms in the UK now employ over 12 million people and generate a quarter of GDP. Long term thinking is at the heart of everything family businesses do, and we were pleased to discuss ways this can be supported by Government at the meeting today."
