Leading Family Businesses Join the IFB Board

The IFB has recently appointed leading family business owners Thomas Martin (ARCO Ltd), Geoffrey Bibby (Bibby Line Group) and Alastair Macphie (Macphie of Glenbervie) as members to the Board of Directors. The new Directors were elected at the IFB AGM on 22nd November.
The IFB is government by a Board of Directors drawn from the IFB’s members. All Board members generously give their time and experience to support the work of the IFB.
Thomas is Chairman at Arco Ltd, a fourth-generation family company. He joined the firm in 1988 from early work in London advertising. Early exposure in product management and branch operations led to him becoming Trading Director (Safety) in 1993, Supply Chain Director in 1998 and Joint MD in 2002. He assumed the Chair in April 2017.
Geoffrey studied Economics at Exeter University prior to qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Grant Thornton in Manchester. Has worked in a variety of SME businesses, most recently in an IT company in the insurance comparison space. Only joined the Bibby Line Group Board in 2015 as a NED with specific responsibility for family matters. He is currently building a portfolio of NED roles, Angel Investments and leading a Junior Golf Development Online start up.
Alastair is the Chief Executive of Macphie of Glenbervie. He began his career in the most northerly stores of the Hudson Bay Company in the Artic of Canada. He returned to the UK to work at General Foods in a series of retail and food service sales roles before returning to the family business in the late 80s, heading up the Export Division and subsequently winning the Queen’s Award for Export 1994.
